Its been a busy week, so I have a bit of a blessing back log! Here is a short but sweet taster of the good things of life at the moment….

Smile in the sky

I saw an upside down rainbow this week, which literally looked like a smile in the sky, and cheered me up immensely. Apparently its called a Circumzenithal arc – or an ice bow as I prefer to call it. Its very rare to see, as it is often overhead, where no one looks and is caused by the sun shining on ice crystals high in the clouds.

Skin

I feel blessed for having skin! Whatever the colour, however many wrinkles – skin is still amazing stuff!

Have you ever considered the thickness of skin?

All my life I have taken skin for granted until I saw how fragile my granddad’s skin is and how easily it now breaks and bleeds.

Our skin is normally 2-3mm thick, in one square inch you have 650 sweat glands, 20 blood vessels, 60,000 melanocytes, and more than 1,000 nerve endings!

Look up at the stars

Tonight is so clear. I looked up and enjoyed the spectacle of the stars. Something I so often forget to do. They were so sharp and bright. The stars help put our lives into perspective. It reminded me of Abraham in the Bible. He was downhearted because he was old and childless and yet God lifts his heart with a promise that must have felt almost ridiculous:

He took him outside and said, “Look up at the sky and count the stars—if indeed you can count them.” Then he said to him, “So shall your offspring^[j] be.”

This is a story of hope in the face of all that seems hopeless. With God all things are possible. That is the story in the stars that I need to remember at the moment.
